A Legacy Brand’s Inbox Had to Work as Hard as Its Hotels
The Ritz-Carlton didn’t need another email newsletter. It needed a program that could hold the weight of a century-old luxury brand while still performing like a modern, revenue-driving channel. That meant reaching the right audience, from luxury engagers to ultra-high-net-worth Reserve prospects, with the right story every month.
With a full editorial calendar running year-round, an evolving audience strategy, and a rotating cast of hero content, the program needed constant testing and refinement to keep engagement moving in the right direction as luxury audience behavior shifted year over year.

This wasn’t a set-it-and-forget-it newsletter. Our team treated every solo as a chance to learn something new about the audience, the content, and the moment, then applied those learnings to the next send.
Strategy & Audience Intelligence
We built and continuously refined the targeting logic behind two distinct audiences: a broad luxury-engagement list and a highly exclusive top-tier segment. Based on performance data, we tightened lower-affinity tiers to engagement-based criteria and identified additional data to more precisely reach the top-tier audience.
This work included
Audience segmentation strategy, quarterly targeting refinements, regional performance analysis.
Creative & Content Strategy
A rebrand of this stature called for more than a refreshed logo. It demanded a visual system disciplined enough to honor a century of brand equity while flexible enough to evolve with a live, monthly content calendar. We designed a template architecture anchored by three distinct color palettes, each engineered to align precisely with brand standards while giving the editorial calendar room to shift in tone from campaign to campaign.
This work included
Brand-aligned palette development, modular template architecture, editorial calendar planning.
Testing & Optimization
Every solo was an opportunity to test. We tracked top- and bottom-performing content, secondary storytelling modules, and regional variance in engagement, then used those findings to sharpen future sends, from subject lines to module order to audience-specific content.
This work included
Ongoing creative and subject-line testing, module-level performance benchmarking, regional engagement analysis.

The program has held its performance steady year after year, even as the luxury email landscape grew more competitive and audience expectations climbed. A full, year-round editorial calendar has run without a gap, and unsubscribe rates have stayed consistently low throughout.
The program’s most engaged audience segment has seen meaningful, sustained growth in click rate — evidence that the tightened targeting strategy is working, and proof that reading a shift in luxury audience behavior and acting on it in real time is what keeps a program performing year after year.
